Enjoy the complete uniqueness of Colombia’s largest body of water, the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta. After arriving in the town of Ciénaga, a boat will take you through this swamp made up of numerous river mouths of the many rivers descending upon the Caribbean from the highest peaks of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. More than 80 different species of aquatic and terrestrial birds call this swamp home, and you will be able to see why as you take in this spectacular, life-filled environment. Of particular interest to birdwatchers, some birds of interest found in this swamp are the chauna chavarri, guacharaca, and the garza nocturna.
